The Adeptus Custodes are an army unlike any other. Each member would be considered a mighty hero by lesser warriors, capable of besting entire units or even armies of weaker foes. With bodies and minds honed through ancient secrets of gene-alchemy and wielding individually crafted weapons of incredible potency, even a small band of these terrifying exemplars can carve a bloody path through hordes of foes. They fight side by side upon the battlefield with the cold-eyed witch seekers of the Sisters of Silence. Theirs is an eternal war, for the threats to the Master of Mankind are manifold and spread across the stars, but they wage it with breathtaking skill and ferocity, for to falter is to doom all of Humanity.
The quest for the Ravening Ruin has drawn all manner of warriors to the ever-hungry Gnarlwood, seeking glory, riches or the simple joy of slaughter. So thick lie the corpses across the forest floor that Nighthaunt Pyregheists have been drawn to it, threatening to consume the forest with the unholy flames of the Great Necromancer. Their rampant spread is held at bay only by the rising waters of a great river, long dormant but returning slowly to life under the guidance of the Ydrilan Riverblades.
The Wildercorps are trackers, scouts, and outdoorsmen – experts who attack from the cover of thick foliage and broken ground. They act as rangers for the Cities of Sigmar, identifying and tackling threats before they can grow to threaten their homes. Their tracking hounds surge forward, sinking fangs into flesh even as skilled sharpshooters pick out their targets and loose their bolts.
Gorger Mawpacks are strange gatherings of ogors afflicted with the Empty Belly curse, driven mad with hunger no matter how much they consume. Wild-eyed and starving, they launch themselves at their prey, using huge clubs or improvised bludgeons to pulverise those unfortunate enough to be their next, eternally unsatisfying meal.
Neurogaunts scuttle forward in seething masses, driven on by the parasitic neurocytes that cling to their backs. Their primary purpose is to protect the synaptic node-beasts coordinating invasion swarms, while projecting their command signals throughout the wider swarm. It is a task they go about with single-minded savagery, slashing, biting, and dying with mindless vigour.
Von Ryan’s Leapers are swift, agile Tyranid bioforms, cunning hunters and stealth ambushers that are especially lethal when fighting in dense terrain. Packs of Leapers lie in wait like living mines, lurking at the optimum locations to cause as much damage as possible. When they sense the perfect time to strike, they burst forth to butcher all around in a murderous frenzy.
A Psychophage stampedes into battle at a frightening speed. They devour any prey organism in their paths, but especially favour those victims with psychic abilities. How they metabolise such esoteric powers is unclear, but doing so allows them to project surges of psychocorrosive ash that deflagrate their victims’ minds and souls.
The Tyranids are alien predators invading the galaxy from the vast intergalactic void beyond its edges. Like swarming insects falling upon precious crops, they devour all before them – consuming life upon each world in their path, and leaving nothing but airless rocks in their wake. They are a threat to every sentient species in the galaxy, and their numbers are growing.
