A master tactician and peerless scholar of military history, he is guided in his strategic decisions by an entourage of seers, advisors, and priests. On the battlefield, the Lord Solar strikes a figure akin to the heroes of old atop his cybernetic stallion, Konstantin. Levelling his blade at the foe, Leontus bellows orders that see the dutiful soldiers of the Imperial Guard achieve victory after victory.

The Tempestus Scions are amongst the finest human warriors in the galaxy. They are fanatically dedicated to the act of following their orders - even if it may result in their own deaths - and often complete missions so dangerous that they would be deemed suicidal for a regular guardsman.

Cadian Castellans are strategic senior officers, often formally ranked as Captains or Colonels. The Sentinel is a one-man all-terrain bipedal vehicle, used by the Astra Militarum where mobile patrols must be mounted across rough terrain, or where firepower must be deployed rapidly in response to a threat.

The Astra Militarum is a monolithic military force, soldiers and vehicles beyond number spread across war zones throughout the galaxy. The Chimera is the Imperial Guard's most commonly used armoured troop carrier. These ubiquitous vehicles are extremely durable and practical, capable of mounting an array of support weapons and protecting embarked Infantry Squads from all but the most destructive of onslaughts.

Commissars are ruthless officers embedded throughout the Astra Militarum, charged with maintaining the morale, discipline, and loyalty of their regiment. With the power to summarily execute any soldier found wanting in their duties, they are feared, brooding figures. A Commissar's devotion to the Imperium is without doubt, and they fight with fanatical bravery – inspiring the same fervour in those who fall under their watchful gaze.

The Leman Russ is the primary battle tank of the Imperial Guard, forming the spearhead of countless armoured columns. Those enemies that do not fall to the bombardment of their cannons and numerous hull-mounted guns are crushed mercilessly beneath their heavy treads. These reliable and formidable tanks can be found in nearly every Astra Militarum regiment in the galaxy, and have become synonymous with the Imperium's fury.

Ursula Creed is the Lord Castellan of Cadia – and though the planet itself may no longer exist, the post and her duty remain firmly intact. She is a forbidding and implacable strategist, the heir to the legendary general who fell with his world, and a living symbol of the enduring indomitability shown by Cadia’s armies. Ursula Creed’s superior generalship, forged over long years, has seen her lead Imperial armies to numerous victories against the enemies that threaten the Imperium.

More rolling fortress than vehicle, the Baneblade super heavy tank is possessed of overwhelming firepower. Wherever a Baneblade sees battle, it becomes the centre of the battle line, Imperial Guardsmen and even smaller tanks sheltering in its lee as its enormous primary cannon and numerous other guns hammer the foe into submission.

The ranks of the Astra Militarum feature countless regiments drawn from the planet of Cadia – or mustered in the gate world's fallen image. These born soldiers are held by many as the ideal Imperial troops – from freshly-conscripted cadets to seasoned Shock Troops and established Veterans, the regiments of Cadia fight through injury and hardship, laden with all the varied tools of war.

Rough Riders are potent cavalry troops fielded by the Astra Militarum – the most famous of which are recruited from the steppes of Attila. Their combat skill and sheer mobility makes these horsemasters a powerful force, whether spearheading an attack or outflanking the foe. When the moment comes to launch a charge, the Rough Riders plunge their hunting lances into the foe and detonate the deadly tips, lending an explosive impact to the assault.

The Valkyrie Assault Carrier is a twin-engine attack craft used for aerial insertions and drop missions. Screaming across a battlefield, a Valkyrie aircraft deploys its cargo into the fray, providing a deadly torrent of covering fire as the troopers within disembark.

The Astra Militarum are the backbone of the Imperium's largest armies. They are the men and women who hold the line, a bulwark standing between Humanity and a nightmarish galaxy of horrors. Amongst the Astra Militarum's massed regiments, the born soldiers of Cadia are some of the most disciplined warriors to be found – tough marksmen trained for a lifetime of grim duty.

Aegis Defence Lines are barricades comprising crenellated armoured panels that link together in a solid shield-wall. Thanks to their simple design they can be built and deployed at great speed, and are thus ideal for establishing defensive perimeters before more permanent structures can be erected.
