The Spartan Assault Tank is a huge armoured conveyer, designed to bear a great contingent of troops into the heart of enemy lines, weathering weapons fire that would be the death of any lesser vehicle. Protected by a sealed shell of legendarily durable plating, the Spartan's carrying capacity exceeds anything but a true super-heavy transporter, while retaining an impressive speed across the battlefield. Its quad lascannons make the Spartan a fearsome tank destroyer, while its secondary armaments allow it to sweep infantry from its path. The Spartan takes pride of place in the armouries of many Legions, its presence limited only by its sheer scale.
The Rhino is the most widely used armoured personnel carrier in the Imperium. Based on ancient STC technology, the fundamental design is robust, reliable, and easy to maintain, with an adaptive power plant that can run off a wide variety of fuels, making it perfect for the wide-ranging armies of the Great Crusade – and the wars of the Horus Heresy. As such, the Rhino chassis serves as a basis for many other war machines, and these transports are produced in their thousands – several distinct patterns are in common use throughout the galaxy, with the heavily-armed Deimos being the most widespread amongst the Space Marine Legions.
Praetors are the mightiest warriors and battle-leaders of the Space Marine Legions, second only to the god-like Primarchs in martial skill and generalship. Those that choose to march to war clad in Cataphractii Terminator armour place great value in its enhanced resilience, which can stoically weather even the heaviest of incoming fire. These hulking warlords stride into the thickest fighting, leading their warriors to victory across hundreds of battlefields.
The Horus Heresy is a conflict of unparalleled destruction, spread across myriad vital campaigns. Embroiled for years in a grinding war of nearly unfathomable scope, the Garmon Cluster now acts as the final break against which the tides of the Warmaster’s forces must crash. Its capital, the Beta-Garmon system, is a burning pyre of armies, where Loyalist forces – led by the Great Angel Sanguinius, the Warhawk Jaghatai Khan, and the remnants of the Shattered Legions – fight to buy precious time before the assault on Terra can begin in earnest.
Aethon Heavy Sentinels are a common sight among the ranks of the Solar Auxilia and are most often piloted by grizzled veterans adept at identifying key enemy targets. These robust machines are able to traverse void station interiors and ruined cityscapes with ease, often forming the lynchpin around which many a successful close-quarters assault has swung.
Veletaris Storm Sections are an elite amongst the Solar Auxilia, assigned the most potent weaponry and the most arduous missions. Deployed as shock troops, their discipline and firepower can overwhelm even the most fearsome of enemies in a storm of concentrated heat rays. Other commanders utilise the Veletarii as a skilled and determined line reserve, able to react quickly to enemy breakthroughs and bolster a wavering defence, or as an axe-wielding honour guard for high-ranking Solar Auxilia officers.
Outside the loyalist Space Marine Legions and the Cult Mechanicum, the Emperor wields forces which are loyal only to him. The Legio Custodes guard the Emperor's person, while the Sisters of Silence stand watch over the Black Ships. The Solar Auxilia are the elite spearhead of the Imperial Army, exemplars of mortal soldiery, while the Divisio Assassinorum is the Emperor's culling blade, aimed at the neck of any foolish enough to imperil his grand dream of Unity.
Perhaps the most advanced Dreadnought engine in the arsenal of the Great Crusade, the Contemptor Dreadnought fuses traditional technologies with arcane cybernetic lore. A powerful atomantic reactor fuels the Dreadnought's impressive speed and strength, while also supplying the defensive energy fields that further increase its battlefield durability. Equipped with a versatile armoury of weapons that allow it to serve as a mobile heavy weapons platform, assault powerhouse, or versatile linebreaker, the Contemptor has found a place within every Legion, no matter their preferred tactics.
Sky-hunters are feared strike units, mounted atop sophisticated and powerful jetbikes. These high-speed craft are more akin to compact aircraft than ground bikes – propelled across the battlefield by jet engines with grav-impellor assistance, they can maintain great speeds for extended periods of low-altitude flight. The jetbike's lift-strength is enough to carry an armoured Space Marine and his wargear along with a variety of heavy weapons mounts and stocks of ammunition, giving the Sky-hunters access to extremely potent, highly mobile firepower.
This multipart plastic kit builds one Legion Scorpius, a mobile artillery piece built on the Deimos-pattern chassis. This tank's turret-mounted missile system is loaded with rotary racks of explosive rockets, ready to saturate whole battlefield zones with a whirlwind of shrapnel and flames. Its launchers can be assembled at a variety of angles, to suggest a devastating volley of direct fire or an arcing salvo of munitions that will wipe out all but the heaviest infantry.
The Medusa and Basilisk artillery tanks employed by the Solar Auxilia are armoured bombardment platforms, their heavy guns mounted on a hull derived from the Leman Russ. Enclosed against enemy fire and protected from the hazardous atmospheres of toxic or alien worlds, these mobile siege batteries can keep pace with the cohort's advance, pummelling the foe's positions even as main line units move to engage any survivors.
Hermes Sentinels are employed as scout walkers and mobile fire platforms by the Solar Auxilia. Fast-moving squadrons of Light Sentinels can strike at enemy formations and disengage before significant resistance is brought to bear, while more heavily-armoured Veletaris Sentinels support aggressive frontal assaults by pressuring the target's vulnerable flanks.
